Teenagers think that the best way to remove zits is to pop them. They can't be more wrong. Popping of zits can easily lead to the formation of scars or push the infection deep down the surface of the skin, making the infection more painful and long lasting. That is why most doctors are against the popping of zits.
You must remember that when you squeeze the upper portion of the papule or the pustule, you get rid of it superficially only. The infection is still present beneath the skin. Moreover there is always the danger of passing the bacteria present on your fingers and fingernails to the open pustule. This worsens the infection and may led to fresh breakouts.
It is safer and easier to remove zits if you follow some rules. You should pop a zit only when it is fully mature. In a mature zit the white center pushes outside. Popping immature zits spreads the infection and pushes the bacteria present on the surface of the skin deeper into the skin. This causes redness, swelling and inflammation of the area.
Always wash your hands especially the skin under the fingernails with a strong antiseptic solution before touching the zit. It minimizes the chances of re-infection. You can also make use of sterile gauze or gloves.
Also, do not pinch the pimple off the base completely. It will lead to extensive damage to the skin tissue that is present around the pimples, and increase the chances of scarring. Instead, take a long tipped needle and flame heat it to sterilize it. Prick the pimple gently and use clean gauze to remove the fluid. Stop when you see blood coming out.
The pimples take about two to three days to heal completely. Do not continue pressing the pimple after blood or clear fluid can be seen from the zit. Wash your hands after the entire procedure. If you want to pop another zit then sterilize your hands again before beginning the procedure.
Some zits take a longer time to yield than others. In such cases you can soak a small piece of sterile gauze material in warm salt water. Place the gauze over the zit and leave it undisturbed for some time. The heat softens the zit considerably. It can then be removed with ease.
After removing a zit, you should apply a solution of Benzoyl Peroxide. This discourages the growth of microorganisms and speeds up the healing process.
