3 Tips For Dealing With Acne

I found that sometimes my acne would be better if every time I took a shower I rubbed my shoulders with my mineral salt crystal deodorant and let that dry naturally. Synthetic cotton balls don’t catch as much dirt, and your fingers naturally have oil in them. Sensitive skin, especially on the face, should really be treated delicately and only with the most gentle, natural ingredients you can find, or else it could definitely be damaged and also show the effects of the damage a little more readily than someone with thicker skin that is also a little bit darker in the skin area.

Herbs work naturally with the body to reduce blemishes and prevent the development of scars. Herbal solutions also are much easier on the skin and allow for the body to naturally rid itself of these toxins. Natural products contain various naturally occurring ingredients, usually plant extracts, that work to dry up the pimple and sooth the effected area. By naturally attacking and treating the root cause below the skin and reducing excessive oil production, the Clearogen solution breaks the cycle and controls formation providing lasting relief and a rejuvenated complexion for clear skin.

Clean your skin and try to eliminate it naturally. Let them heal naturally or though medications, and the scars will automatically disappear over a period of time. Toothpaste is another proven way to fight and clear your acne naturally. From diet to naturally occurring acids, there are more than a few weapons in natural treatments. Vitamin A occurs naturally in carrots, leafy green vegetables (lettuce, spinach, collard greens), and yellow and orange fruits such as peaches, apricots, and mangoes.

The best remedies include cures that fight against inflammation, that soothe the skin and those which naturally absorb oil. Increase intake of foods naturally high in vitamin A (dark colored fruits & vegetables, lean protein) and zinc (nuts & legumes) as both are important to skin health. Zinc is a mineral found naturally in many of the foods we eat.

Acne is defined as a diseased condition of the skin that involves the hair and oil glands. It is characterized by pimples, black/white heads, reddishness and cysts. Face acne can spoil your appearance to a great extent and body acne can really ruin your day by making you very uncomfortable. Considering acne as a minor problem, some people tend to totally discard the topic of ‘Acne skin care’. However, the importance of ‘Acne skin care’ cannot be undermined in any way.

Acne skin care should really start much before the acne actually appears. ‘Acne skin care’ is more about being proactive than reactive. Acne skin care is about being aware of preventive measures. Acne skin care is – following daily skin care routines with complete discipline. So let’s have a look at how ‘acne skin care’ can be applied to our daily routine.

‘Acne skin care’ starts with the most basic thing – cleanliness. So morning showers are the most basic way of keeping the skin clean. In fact, a lot of people take night showers too (that not only helps in keeping your skin clean but also provides relaxation to your body and enables a good sleep). If you are living in a hot and/or humid place, a night shower becomes a must. In fact, a shower is recommended after any activity that causes high levels of sweat to develop. It’s a very effective ‘acne skin care’ technique.

However, acne skin care is not about just showers. Acne skin care is also about wearing clean clothes and sleeping on clean pillows. Moreover, too tight clothes can cause sweat to accumulate quickly; so soft and comfortable cotton clothes are recommended, especially if you already have acne. In the same sense, ‘acne skin care’ also advocates regular cleaning of your make-up brush and any equipment that you use on your body.

Besides that, you should also use a mild, water-soluble, oil-free and soap-free cleanser for keeping your face, neck and arms clean. Cleansing is the most important part of any acne skin care routine. Cleaners are the easiest and the most effective way of removing dirt, grease, pollutants and excess oil from your skin; thus reducing the probability of acne occurrence. Acne skin care also recommends removing your make up using a make up remover, and this should happen before you go to bed (not in the morning).

If you already have acne, do not try to touch them or squeeze them; it can lead to permanent scars. ‘Acne skin care’ advocates gentle cleansing and cleaning of the affected area using an over-the-counter medication and a clean/soft cotton pad. There are various acne skin care creams and lotions available over-the-counter (a lot of these acne skin care products are actually cleansers). However, if these ‘acne skin care’ measures don’t give you the desired results, contact a dermatologist for ‘acne skin care’ advice and treatment.

The Importance of Hygiene for Acne Sufferers

One of the most common misconceptions about acne is that it’s caused by dirt. It’s not! Acne is caused by a combination of factors you can’t control, like your hormone balance and the natural pace of your skin’s renewal system. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can control that may help you keep your acne in check. Begin by following these simple suggestions for healthy-skin hygiene.

Acne Prevention – Tip #1: Don’t over-wash. Since dirt is not causing your acne, excessive scrubbing and washing won’t make it go away. Try to limit yourself to two washings per day — anything more than that can leave your healthy skin dry, and your acne-prone areas irritated. Habitual over-washing may also stimulate extra oil production, which could result in more breakouts.

Acne Prevention – Tip #2: Skip harsh scrubs. It’s okay to exfoliate, but be sure to use a gentle formula with small, smooth grains. Avoid products with almond or apricot shell fragments; they can irritate or even tear your skin and further aggravate your acne.

Acne Prevention – Tip #3: Say no to alcohol. If you use a toner, avoid products with high concentrations of isopropyl alcohol, or common rubbing alcohol. A strong astringent, alcohol strips the top layer of your skin, causing your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. The result? Dry, red skin — and possibly more blemishes.

Acne Prevention – Tip #4: Don’t squeeze or pick. Squeezing or picking your blemishes — with fingernails, pins or anything else — can force bacteria deeper into the skin, causing greater inflammation and infection. You’ll also increase the damage to the surrounding skin, so the blemish is more likely to leave a permanent acne scar.

Acne Prevention – Tip #5: Hands off! Propionibacterium acnes (the bacteria that causes breakouts) is a normal resident of your skin; it doesn’t lead to acne until it gets trapped inside the hair follicle. Excessive touching of your face, including rubbing or even resting your chin in your hands, can drive bacteria into your pores — where it can begin its dirtywork.

Acne Prevention – Tip #6: Work out, wash off. When you exercise, your movement generates heat; clothing and equipment cause friction. Until you shower off, heat and moisture are trapped against your skin, creating an ideal breeding ground for the spread of bacteria. So whenever you can, shower off immediately after exercising.

Acne Prevention Treatment – Find a regimen and stick with it. Most cases of mild acne can be improved with “over-the-counter” products, or products that don’t require a prescription from your doctor. There is a wide range of treatments available, and there’s a good chance one of them will work for you. If you start treatment before your acne gets severe, you’ll have a better chance of avoiding physical and emotional problems down the road. But if your acne gets worse or lasts more than a couple of weeks, see a dermatologist. Here’s a quick listing of the most common products used to treat acne — click on the links that interest you for more information on that course of acne treatment.

The Benefits and Effects of Exercise for Acne Sufferers

Moderate exercise is actually good for your skin. It helps you maintain a healthy body and manage your stress levels, too. If you find your acne is aggravated by regular exercise, then you may want to examine your routine. What do you wear? Where do you go? How hard do you work? Exercise-related acne is usually caused by something you put on your body rather something you do with it. Remove these outside factors, and you may put an end to your workout breakouts. Here are just a few things to watch for.

Acne & Exercise – Make-up. When exercising, wear as little make-up as possible. Even oil-free and non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) cosmetics can clog pores if worn during heavy exercise. When you’re done working out, wash as soon as possible.

Acne & Exercise – Sunscreen. If your regimen takes you outdoors, always wear sunscreen. While acne may improve slightly after brief periods in the sun, studies show that prolonged exposure actually promotes comedones (clogged pores) and, of course, sun damage. Some kinds of acne medication make skin more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is even more important. When choosing a sunscreen, look for products that are oil-free and have a protection factor of at least SPF 15 for both UVA and UVB rays. Like make-up, sunscreen can travel across the skin’s surface and lodge in the pores — so wash immediately after working out.

Acne & Exercise – Clothing. If you’re prone to body acne, avoid garments made exclusively with lycra or nylon. Why? Some synthetic fabrics can trap the heat and moisture against your skin, creating a fertile breeding ground for the bacteria that contribute to acne. For moderate exercise, your best bet is lightweight, loose-fitting cotton, or a lycra-cotton blend. Natural fabrics allow the skin to breathe, and loose garments are less likely to cause friction. If you’re exercising vigorously and working up a good sweat, however, you may want to try some of the new fabrics designed to wick moisture away from your skin.

Acne & Exercise – Equipment. Some people are more likely to get acne or have their lesions aggravated in the areas affected by sports equipment. The best defense against friction-related breakouts is a good fit — make sure your helmet doesn’t slide around on your forehead, or your wetsuit isn’t too tight under the arms. You can also curb equipment-triggered breakouts by lining your helmet with a layer of soft, washable cotton fabric; it’s a great use for those old t-shirts, too. And no matter what the sport, it’s always a good idea to keep your equipment clean and dry when not in use.

Acne & Exercise – Moisture. Mom was right: You should get out of those wet clothes! No matter how you get your exercise — treadmill, trail, tennis court, or whatever — don’t sit around in your sweaty clothes or wet bathing suit when you’re done. If you can, shower off immediately and change into dry clothes before driving home. If this isn’t possible, change into dry clothes and wipe down as well as you can. When toweling sweat off your face, always use a clean towel, and blot gently rather than wipe. Vigorous wiping can irritate your skin, driving make-up and sunscreen deeper into the pores.

Acne & Exercise – Showering. Again, it’s best to shower immediately after working out. You may want to use a medicated exfoliant cleanser, but always be gentle with your skin. Scrubbing harder isn’t going to make you any cleaner, or make your acne go away — and it may actually irritate existing lesions or promote the development of new ones. If you can’t shower right away, you can still curb breakouts by wiping down with medicated pads; keep a few in your gym bag just in case.

So keep up the good work! A healthy exercise program is an integral part of your overall health; and a healthy body is more likely to have healthy skin. Just keep an eye on the various factors that accompany your regimen, and try to remove the acne triggers — you’ll be on your way to breakout-free workouts.

Which Acne Products are the Best to Buy

Acne is not a simple condition to treat. It is a skin disease that affects each individual that has it differently. Every case of serious acne has to be looked at as an individual case in order to be properly treated. There is no catch-all treatment that can be used for every case. Furthermore, a lot of trial and error is usually needed in order to find an effective treatment individual by individual. There are many acne products that are mass-marketed as the best cure for acne.

It is very important to realize that products that are marketed towards acne sufferers and that can be bought off the shelf in the supermarket, do not cure acne. They manage, mask or suppress the symptoms of acne. It is important to recognize this as well as to realize that acne is not a result of bad hygiene. If your acne is progressively getting worse do not think that it is enough to wash your skin often and to use an over the counter product. If your acne is getting worse, seek medical advice for stronger products that might only be available with a prescription.Acne treatments vary from being off the shelf, over-the-counter creams, prescribed and surgical.

Over the counter acne products are usually topical medicines that contain Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid. These are usually used to treat mild cases of acne where an individual is attempting to halt the progression of acne and clear up some troublesome pimples. They can also be used during severe stages of acne in combination with another treatment. Doctors usually recommend that the acne-infected area be washed very gently with warm water and a mild soap and then the topical treatment applied.

When acne progresses to the moderate or severe stage, doctors and dermatologists will usually use a combination of treatments in order for maximum effectiveness in halting any further development of the skin disease. Light therapy and extraction are often used at the moderate stage, in combination with an oral antibiotic or a retinoid cream, depending on the observations and recommendations of your doctor.Since acne is such a complex condition to properly treat, it is not advisable to attempt to self-medicate.

If you try over the counter products and they do not work. Do not give up thinking that you have an incurable case of acne. Seek further professional medical advice. A doctor or a dermatologist will try to stop your acne from getting out of hand and will make an aggressive attempt at using a combination of products to prevent the possibility of acne scarring.

If you are serious about putting a halt to your acne, learn about the latest acne fighting products and how they can possibly work for your type of acne from your doctor. Do not make off the shelf products the extent of your fight against acne. Be as aggressive about fighting acne as acne is about progressing step by step into a serious skin condition.

Is it possible to prevent acne? Most people would not even consider asking the question unless they were troubled by this disease in the first place, so it is not really a matter of preventing acne from occurring at all, but of curing it first, then preventing its return.

Much advice in the western world declares that diet is not a factor in causing acne, yet those who live in some other countries are not affected by the condition. Whether this is an inherited factor, or caused by diet has not been decided yet.

There are many who now believe that diet does play a large part in bringing on acne, while there are just as many, or perhaps even more who believe that junk food, chocolate and foods high in sugar and fats have nothing to do with acne. The trouble is that if you were not affected by it, you would not be motivated to modify your diet to resemble that of the eastern nations.

One thing is clear; acne is not caused by dirt. It is caused when the oil in our body is not metabolized efficiently and dead skin cells become sticky and block the pores of the skin. Bacteria then enters into the pores and causes infection and inflammation.

So what can be done to prevent this happening? It seems logical to eat less fatty foods, but our body may produce oils in any case. Hygiene helps to control it, yet acne is not caused by dirt, but by bacteria normally present on the skin. Therefore, it seems that we must try to prevent acne by using several different methods at the one time.

Zinc gluconate and some antibiotics administered orally are both effective in treating the inflammation of acne, while insulin is also reported to have worked in the same way. No big studies have been done on the latter though, so proceed cautiously with this one.

Chromium supplements appeared to have worked according to one small study, while Nicholas Perricone advises a strict diet in which dairy is almost totally avoided in his controversial book, The Acne Prescription. He also recommends topical applications of alpha lipoic acid. There was no strong scientific evidence for Perricone’s theories until early in 2005 when a paper was published detailing a link between acne and milk.

Research is now being done on the use of lasers for the prevention of acne. Lasers have been used to treat the scars left by really bad acne, but it is now realized that the follicle sac from which the hair grows, as well as the sebaceous gland that produces oil, can be burned away by the use of lasers. They can also be used to kill the bacteria by inducing oxygen in them. But no one has yet come up with a solution to the possible damage that the skin might suffer during these operations, so this option is a long way off.

Identifying the Common Forms of Acne

Most people have been troubled by acne at some stage of their lives. The most common form of acne is called ‘acne vulgaris’ and is caused when the pores of the skin become partially blocked by oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria that is normally found on the skin surface then invades the area, causing inflammation and pain. In many cases the ensuing pimples contain pus and sometimes a blackhead. The blackhead is not dirt, but a change in the pigment of the blockage.

Acne is thought to be partly hereditary, but there are several other factors that can precede its onset. One of these is hormonal activity such as the menstrual cycle. Stress is also likely to bring on the dreaded zits due to increased output of hormones from the stress glands. Anabolic steroids have a similar effect, while medication containing halogens, lithium, barbiturates or androgens is also cited as a cause. A more severe form of acne called Chloracne is caused by exposure to high levels of chlorine. This type of acne is very severe and long lasting.

The normal form of acne usually gets better by itself, but the trouble is that it can often take a long time: decades in some cases. Another problem is that acne at its worst can cause bad scarring of the skin. If a pimple full of pus is squeezed until it bleeds, there will often be scarring.

Some experts say that pimples should not be squeezed because this can force the pus deeper into the skin. This deep-rooted infection can result in scarring and cyst formation. It is easier to prevent these scars in the first place than to cure them, so go easy on the squeezing. If you do squeeze a pimple, wash your hands in a disinfectant first, then gently pierce the pus-filled pimple with a sterile needle. This will allow the pus to come out instead of being forced downwards. Sterilize the needle by passing it through a candle flame two or three times.

Some mature women have what they think is acne, but it may be the less common acne rosacea. It is similar to look at, but the skin is usually flushed and becomes thickened. People who blush easily are the most likely to develop this condition. Acne rosacea is frequently stress-related and is a potential threat to the vision, so a correct diagnosis is imperative. It is possible for the two forms of acne to co-exist. Another condition that can be mistaken for acne is keratosis pilaris.
