Keeping Your Skin Problem Free

You have spent your entire life listening to people tell you that you need to wash your face. If you are anything like the rest of us, washing your face is not the most enjoyable activity and making time to do it every day feels like a hassle. When all you want to do is go to sleep, washing your face is a huge pain in the…you know what–even if you can still remember your puberty years like they just finished happening. Here’s the thing: you need to keep your face clean to keep dirt and bacteria from infecting your pores. Do you still want to be prone to breakouts in your thirties and onward? Here is what you need to do to keep your pores free and clear.

Keep your hair away from your face.

All day long your hair follicles produce oil which makes its way into your hair and then, if you are not careful, onto your face and into your pores. If you have long hair that gets in your face or bangs that rest against your forehead for most of the day you could transfer that oil to your pores, which will then get clogged and produce pimples and acne. Yes having long hair and bangs is fun, but preventing breakouts means keeping that long hair and those bangs off of your face. There are plenty of options for style and keeping your hair off of your face. You’ll thank yourself later when your skin is clear.

Pay attention to the oil content in the cosmetics and beauty products you buy. There are even some facial cleansers that have oil for their base. Oily pores are the reason you are taking steps to clean your face! While you are shopping be sure to check for oil before you buy any beauty products, cosmetics or cleansers. Powder bases are better for your skin because they contain less oil (or none at all) than the liquid based cosmetics on the counter. Your facial cleanser should be creamy or lotiony, not nearly solid or oily. Exercise some caution and common sense when you shop!

You should keep your skin away from the sun. Spreading on sunscreen probably seems really stupid if your main goal is to keep your pores free of outside substances. Thankfully there are lots of sunscreens that are not oily.

Protecting your skin no longer means spreading heavy layers of cream all over it. Now sunscreen is light and can be sprayed on! You’ll also be happy to learn that most of the lotion and makeup you own already contains sun fighting agents. Just remember: tanning does not keep pimples away. It just puts you at risk for skin cancer. Sometimes the best thing you can do to treat your acne is to go back to basics: keep your face clean and keep your hands away from breakouts. Sometimes you need something with a little bit more kick to fight your breakout. Thankfully, no matter how old or young you are, there are plenty of options available to help you fight your acne.
